Cane Toads: An Unnatural History 1/5

Posted by admin on July 22nd, 2009 and filed under toads |

A short film from 1988 about the introduction of cane toads to Australia in the 1930s.

The documentary is amusing but the cane toads certainly aren’t. It was introduced to Queensland in an attempt to control the cane beetle grub which ravaged sugar cane planatations. Since this program was made, the toad has spread much further and has now reached the northern area of Western Australia.

Attempts are still being made to control the spread of the toads, so far without success. It has never shown the slightest interest in preying on the grubs.

this is SO weird! i lived with this girls’ mom for a few weeks just outside of Atherton! She’s super awesome and is a wildlife carer who takes care of Lumholtz tree kangaroos! Its weird cause there are posters of this girl and toads around the house! Invasives are a hard thing to deal with, and I’m still unsure on the ethics behind it

hahaha, i sow this in Environmental Class at Uni, man, it was a bit disturbing with the little girl playing with the toad. It is a huge problem considering it’s killing allot of our wild life and disturbing the balance of the ecosystem.

Former free countries all over the world are slowly losing their freedom and individual rights due to increasing Police State and Big Brother activity, and yet, people still find time to obsess over things so natural and normal like Cane Toads. LOL! No wonder the world is ed.
