I suggest an African Clawed Frog – very low maintenance, just about as much work as a goldfish! They can be fed on a pellet and are pretty fun to watch.

Whatever you do, please do not get a turtle, for the very least, you will need a 55 gallon aquarium for an adult turtle – most of them eventually actually needing a 100+ gallon tank.
