Does anyone know how to get rid of toads?

Posted by admin on October 11th, 2009 and filed under toads | 10 Comments »

My house has toads everywhere and they freak me out? I would really like to get rid of them. Please help!

don’t be freaked out. If you need help removing them into a safer environment contact animal control or something and see if there is a safe humane way to remove them so that they are happy and you are toad-less. Personally I would like the company but I can see where you are coming from. Just don’t hurt the critters! Don’t lay traps don’t poison don’t try to capture yourself. Let a professional do it. Or at least have a pro give you tips. Toads are living creatures, please don’t try to hurt them.

Toads are making holes under the concrete steps and landing. What to do?

Posted by admin on October 11th, 2009 and filed under toads | 2 Comments »

I was wondering if these holes are very deep, they seem to go under the steps and the landing in the front of my house. There are three holes and it seems there are numerous toads coming out from all of them. Will these holes undermine the concrete step? I know the toads are harmless, but worried that these holes can cause damage. Any suggestions????? Or just leave alone???

they are ‘hiding holes’… moist and cool during the day’s hot sun..(they might leave, too, if there wasn’t moisture there…is the area being watered?)….. you could make ‘toad houses’ of flower pots in the shade and they might move there….scroll down on this page…

My property is riddled with cane toads and i dont know what to do about it. What are some fun ways to get rid of them? I’ve heard of golf clubs but there’s something else that you pour on them to make them explode.
To all those people who said i’m cruel - i forgot to add something since i moved into my property cane toads have killed 4 of my dogs, 12 of my cattle, and has temporarily blinded my cat twice.

well i live in qld and we have a lot of fun way to torture and kill those little ferall beasts
1) dig a a hole 2 foot deep w8 for toads to fallin pour down petrol and light it up
2)get a seringe and fill with fuel/diesel and put down toads throat and fill stomach then light the mouth and watch the toad burn inside out
3)fire crackers this is the most amusing shove down throat or up anal and watch them explode
pour salt into mouth and die of thirst
if u pour fuel on them and the light them be carefull cause the hopaway whilst on fire
once me and my mate used a nail gun and nailed toads to trees through the head and the little buggers survived for 3-4 days

man iom with u all the way on the killing of toads they should be killed a painful and slow as possible

hate them took lives of my dogs my cat and blinded my mate in 1 eye permantly so yeah im with u on this topic

Good idea! Leave them in the back yard… the common toad will need to eat way too many bugs than you could possibly give it to sustain a healthy life in captivity. Not saying it’s not possible, but they are native amphibians that fall into the same laws that regulate reptile and amphibian hunting. It is completely illegal to catch a reptile, snake or any other animal native to your area and keep it in captivity. Just FYI…

Besides… they eat all the bugs and mosquitos out there! : )
If you like frogs and toads, I would buy one from a breeder. One that is not native to the state you live in, one that is a common pet you would find at your local pet shop. I’m against buying reptiles from pet shops but that’s because I am a breeder of bearded dragons myself and I have seen too many reptiles being neglected by pet stores. Don’t get me wrong! I have seen just as many private owners neglecting reptiles as I’ve seen pet shops. Most of the neglect comes from over crouded spaces, not enough staff to care for the quantity of animals 100% of the time, and in some cases, min. feedings as they want to sell the animal for a profit. Keeping it and feeding it well for months, would only lower the actual profit the store might make on it in the end. If the animal stays at the pet store too long, they store will spend much more money feeding and caring for the animal than it will make from selling it later on. The main reason the animals you see in the pet shop seem so hungry when you get them home. Many die a day or two or a week later too! Be very careful when buying reptiles and amphibians from anyone. Stores, or private owners… a good breeder is best.

what temp do I need to have aquarium to breed firebelly toads ?

Posted by admin on October 3rd, 2009 and filed under toads | 1 Comment »

I have chines firebelly toads.. 8 of them and have had them for about 2 years.. I see them on top of eachother and wonder if maybe my temp is not right for them to breed and lay eggs ?? Do I have to have aquarium at a certain temp ?? Help ??

Room temperatures are usually suitable for fire bellies. However, bumping up water temp can help females lay eggs. Try upping the temps to about 75-77F, but do not excede 80F.

You will need a second tank at the about the same temps to transfer the eggs to. Fire bellies, as I’m sure you know, will eat almost anything - including their own eggs and tadpoles.

Have you allowed them to hibernate? This is almost essential for fire belly breeding.

I’d defintaly suggest this site for you

what should i feed 2 toads smaller than my pinkie nail?

Posted by admin on October 3rd, 2009 and filed under toads | 3 Comments »

I raised them from tadpoles and they ate like pigs! Then, they just stopped eating when they turned into frogs. Can someone with experience with baby toads please tell me what to feed them?

While turning into froglets, they usually stop eating while the tail is being absorbed. Once that stage is over and they are 100% froglets, they should begin feeding again.

You need to special order Flightless Fruit Flies and Pinhead Crickets for your baby toads.

When I raised my baby toads, I bought fruit flies from http://www.silkwormshop.com and http://www.joshsfrogs.com - I bought pinhead crickets from vendors on ebay as well as http://www.nyworms.com and even from http://www.petco.com

Your baby toads may also take blood or black worms too. Try getting them at your local pet store or again, special order them online.

do fire bellied toads make good first pets?

Posted by admin on October 1st, 2009 and filed under toads | 3 Comments »

I’m 15, and my mom says that I can get a pet. My friend said that fire bellied toads are good, so I was thinking about getting one. Could I get 2 of them and everything that they need for under $100? I already have a 10-gallon long aquarium. Can someone help me with the care and other stuff they need?

Definitely. They can’t be handled though. If you want a frog you can handle, White’s tree frog will work.

All you’d need to buy is pebbles as a substrate and a small filter. Those two items won’t go higher than $40. Make the enclosure half water, half land. Put the filter in the water, because the tend to poop a lot. You don’t need a heater or a light, so ignore those people who tell you to buy them.

Feed them crickets once ever few days. Remove dead crickets to prevent disease.

Provide rocks or plants for hides and climbing objects.

You can put 3 fire belly toads in the aquarium you have.

They are very easy to own. Good luck.

Oh yeah, the fire bellies themselves are about $6 each.

Can I feed my bearded dragon cricket toads?

I’m finding a lot of little cricket toads in my yard, and I think that my bearded dragon, Garth would find them to be tasty little treats. Does anyone know if they are toxic to beardies?
"There is no such thing as a "cricket toad"."

Just because you’ve never heard the term doesn’t mean they don’t exist, Mr. Know-it-all. Where I’m from, it’s just another word for the juvenile common toad.

There is no such thing as a "cricket toad".

However, toads are toxic. They are not a good choice for a bearded dragon.

* "Common toad" is not a proper species name either, Mr. Know-it-all. You really don’t know what kind of toads you have, do you?
Are you even sure you have a bearded dragon?

Should I take Baby Toads out of Old Pool?

Posted by admin on September 27th, 2009 and filed under toads | 3 Comments »

I have thousands of Baby toads. I have an old pool that is more like a pond that is now filled with literally thousands of baby toads. The problem is they can’t get out of the pool. SHould I try to take them out or leave them in there?
There are thousands, I can’t build a home for them. My question is are they better off in the pool or out in the woods. SHould I take them to a local pond or something?

if they are stuck, take them out. if you like them, why not make a shallow little pond in your yard with some veggies to attract food and nice shade? we get turtles every year and set aside the area where she lays eggs for her with lots of fruit and veggies and things that attract bugs for the babies. it doesn’t really look out of place and they aren’t much of a nuisance. maybe your toads will stick around and croak you to sleep this summer!
