What’s the name of the children’s book (1970’s-1980’s) that had a toad and a mole and other animals?

I can’t remember much details, but it was a more serious children’s book. I think the toad had a pocket watch.

I think you are talking about Kenneth Grahame’s "The Wind in the Willows." It is actually from the 20s, but had a revival in the late 70s when an animated movie came out based on the book.

GREAT book! I’ve read it several times and even the "fanfic" follow ups that came out in the late 90s. Good for early teens to read too.

Can you imagine using the DNA from a triceratops and crossing it with a toad?

Wouldn’t that make a true Horned Toad? Can you see yourself riding one, hopping sixty or seventy feet at a time on something with three really sharp horns on it’s head? How cool would that be?

I think the kids say, " way cool. "

How to hold a squirmy toad?

Posted by admin on October 21st, 2009 and filed under toad | 8 Comments »

I have to educate children about reptiles/amphibians as my job, and there’s this one toad in particular that I always have trouble with. It’s a "pacman" toad and you can’t put your hands in front of his face (because he’ll try and eat them). What is the ideal way to hold him so that he doesn’t always try and jump out of my hand?
Don’t worry, the kids definitely won’t be holding him… that’s not safe.

Hold him in the palm of your hand.
His head can go between your fingers and you have control.
Rubbing the belly calms him.
If you hold tightly around, with fingers on back…he gets scared, like he’s prey and will kick and squirm.
Remember, rub belly….hold from underneath. (legs dangling)
