They fall from the sky; Hence the term "Raining toads and frogs"…
Do you mean the way they look, or the fact that they come out?

Which kind?

Well, yes, but it’s not exactly like in the Simpsons.
Such toads are called Psychoactive toads, and psychoactive substances can be derived from glands in their skin. They are from the family of bufotoxins.
For example, the skin/venim of Bufo alvarius (Colorado River toad or Sonoran Desert toad) contains 5-MeO-DMT and bufotenin. Some types of toads only contain one hallucinogen or the other.

However, toad-licking itself, is just a rumor. You can’t hallucinate from licking a toad’s back. A hallucinogen can be derived from their skin and venom, yes, but it is a process, not just there on their skin to be licked.

On leap day, Feb. 29, zoos and aquariums around the country marked the kickoff of the Year of the frog,which aims at bringing attention to frogs, toads and other amphibians and their struggles with pollution, human encroachment and disease.

i find toads and frogs to be fascinating creatures, why are most people grossed by them?

that is a bit of an over generalization, but I do know what you mean. Most/many people know little about amphibians and we tend to fear what we don’t know, plus many folks still remember being a kid and trying to pick up aa toad or frog and getting a hand full of pee
