I am considering getting back into keeping tree frogs, I haven’t had any in years. I have a 10 gallon hex aquarium that I want to convert for green tree frogs. I live in a colder climate so I want to make sure that the tree frogs with have plenty of warmth but won’t get cooked. What do you find works best for your tree frogs?
I am the good shepherd. A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
A hired man, who is not a shepherd and whose sheep are not his own, sees a wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away, and the wolf catches and scatters them.
This is because he works for pay and has no concern for the sheep.
I am the good shepherd, and I know mine and mine know me,
just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I will lay down my life for the sheep.
I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice, and there will be one flock, one shepherd.
What method of heating do you use for your green tree frogs?
Is ordinary handling and usage as a pet of ANY frog or toad dangerous(In India)?
Is ordinary handling and usage as a pet of ANY frog or toad dangerous(In India)?
Depends. Don’t you get loads of frogs in India when it rains in the monsoon anyways?
I haven’t been to India in the monsoon so I have no clue but if you want to keep a frog, yes! Always wash ur hands!
What Exactly Do You Feed a Horney Toad?
Okay.
So I found a horney toad in my backyard yesterday… and I was wondering what you are supposed to feed them. Crickets, worms, human flesh? What?
And yes, they are endangered.
And yes, on Monday I am going to take it to my local zoo. No worries.
they feed on a diet of harvester ants, 95% of their diet is this, but you can feed them small crickets untill you can take them to the zoo on monday, they do not survive in captivity and you need to keep them in a tank which has a temp of 85* in the day and no less than 70 at night, they don’t drink out of a water bowl you have to mist the tank daily and they will get the water off the rocks or put a drop of water on their nose (yes seems crazy but they will drink through their nose) , best of luck honey hope he is ok
How do you tell if a frog is poisonous or not?
My friends and I were in my backyard when my Mom saw a bright green frog. It wasn’t a toad. We thought it might have been a tree frog cause of the body. Though it doesn’t have red eyes and the feet colors too. We want to keep it but we don’t know if it might be poisonous,We put it in my bug catcher and we came back and it changed to dull green with black spots. But the pupils are still brown. Is it poisonous or not?
Most poisonous frogs are very brightly colored so usually the tropical frogs are poisonous but if it is in your backyard i highly doubt it is poisonous unless you live in the tropics. if it turns out to be poisonous just wash your hands like you would if you touched any kind of frog.

Will Rosie Red Minnows eat toad or tree frog tadpoles?
I have a stagnant mudhole pond and i live in north idaho? my pond is 2to3 feet deep and is loaded with toad and treefrog tadpoles.will the rosie reds eat many tadpoles?will the rosie reds eat spawn from the toads or tree frogs?if rosie reds eat tadpoles will they eat tons and tons of them or only a few?will the rosie reds eat mosquito larvae?
No, instead often the tadpoles are the one who will peck at the fish and eventually kill them. I saw it happen.
Flowerhorn and other large cichlids can eat tadpoles . I remember once they ate all of my African dwarf frog’s.
other then insects what else can i feed a toad?
is there a nutrient rich diet i can feed a toad ? and will a toad eat anything that is not alive and moving?
It depends a lot on what species of toad that you are trying to feed. Some take artificial foods better than others. presentation is also important to get toads to eat non-living foods.
I have seen common toads (Bufo americanus)http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/site/accounts/information/Bufo_americanus.html
that have acclimated to dog food on their own by eating slugs and insects crawling around in open bowls and then starting to eat the dog food straight.
You have to remember that a toads feeding instinct is triggered by the movement and size of the target object. If it is the right size and it moves a in jerky insect like manner it may be preserved as foods by the toad. Moving the food away from the toad may be as important as moving it towards them. If they think that the food is about to escape they may be more likely to strike at it.
Presentation is key with some of the more exotic amphibians that I have kept. I like to use a single long broom straw. I will begin by impaling a live food on the straw that the toad likes and is used to eating. After it becomes used to eating off the end of the straw I will try other foods. I have had good luck with beef liver, fish, shrimp is especially good, and sometimes chicken parts.
Probably not the species that you have but may give you some good general ideas: http://www.erowid.org/archive/sonoran_desert_toad/caresheet.htm
Good Luck
How can i tell if the frog in my fishtank is pregnant?
ive got 2 of those little frogs that go in your fish tank with the fish.. the female frog seems to be looking fat. how can i tell if she is pregnant? or is something wrong with her?
websites with pictures would help big time, or someone with experience on these little froggies:)
The reason i want to know is so that i can seperate her from the fish before she lays the eggs, so atleast the eggs have somewhat of a chance.
http://allaboutfrogs.org/info/doctor/bloat1.jpg if it looks like this it had dropsy. But other wise it would lay eggs.
fire belly toad question. 10 ez points.?
how many fire belly toads can you house in a 10 gallon tank? also how do u sex them? give me as much info as u can. thank u so much.
I wouldn’t keep more than two FBTs in a cage of that size. That’s actually pushing it for me. It’s difficult to get a proper heat gradient in any tank smaller than 20 gallons. In a 20 gallon tank, however, I would say 4, maybe five toads could be housed comfortably.
Some care sheets will allow for up to 4 toads in a 10 gallon tank. In my opinion, this is a mistake. They aren’t as territorial as some species of amphibian, but they can still have aggression issues. When you have too many of them in a small area, they can fight, or a dominant toad can intimidate other toads into erratic behavior or even into not eating.
If you are going to keep more than one in a 10 gallon, make sure to watch them carefully. If one toad is growing and another is staying small, or behaving aggressively or unreasonably afraid, you may need to separate them.
The other major issue with a tank that small is that, as I mentioned, it’s hard to get a good heat gradient, which all reptiles and amphibians need to be able to perform natural functions properly. For instance, they often need a specific temperature to digest their food after they’ve eaten. A whole different one is needed for them to rest properly, etc.
How often should i feed my two green tree frogs?
I have two green tree frogs. They are each about 2 inches long. I buy 15 micro crickets from the pet store and just put them all in there and they eat them. How often should I do this?
we feed ours every two days, they don’t always eat all the cricket we put in as a treat we get maggots from a fishing shop, let the crystallize and put the cases in the tank with the frogs, when the flies hatch out the frogs go mad for them, we only put about a dozen cases in at a time the rest if kept cold will stay dormant for ages, but the frogs love them, you can also feed earth worms as well, 15 micro crickets should last a few days,
Could you make a toad in the whole with Chicken instead of Sausages?
I have always had the idea that I would love to have a yorkshire pudding with everything that you have with a roast dinner inside the yorkshire pudding eg. Meat, Roast Potatoes, Stuffing etc…Or if this is too hard could I use chicken or beef instead of sausages for toad in the whole???
yeah dont see why it should be any different, just make sure the chicken is fully cooked when you add the batter to the pudding tray to cook and that it is properly greased as i think the sausage fat helps to stop the pudding from sticking when you take it out. but if you make a big one (you can buy big tins rather then the small ones) then you can make the big pudding, then put all the other bits like the meat and roasts and veg inside with the gravy etc nad it holds it nicely.
